SideTrack Studios is a creative collective of visual artists. This collective is made up by private studios spaces used for professional practice. SideTrack is located in the Spice Yard, Salt River.
The Spice Yard is a vibrant, diverse business environment, that is growing into its role as an ever expanding hub for creatives and forward thinking entrepreneurs. Current tenants include film industry, distilleries, coffee shop, a caterer & many more.
SideTrack Studios was launched in September 2020 by artist Claude Chandler. Before SideTrack, Claude managed and facilitated EastSide Studios for 3 years. In those years he learnt a lot about running an art studio, working with artists and maintaining a professional practice. Originally from Durban, moving down to Cape Town after his studies. He found himself struggling to make his art career viable or at least consistent or tangible. This changed after visiting his first artist collective studio, something he never came across in Durban besides at art school. He has been a full time artist ever since. The importance of been surrounded by fellow artists, having a support system and community cannot be stressed enough for young or established artists.
Art Studios have played a major roll in Claude's life and it has always been his dream to launch his own studio built from the ground up. The idea of SideTrack is to have a 'purpose' built studio, allowing the space to feel professional and functional for artists. The finishes and studio build is of high in quality giving the resident artists a sense of professionalism and pride.
